Newquay

We took a couple of days off with a break in Newquay – at this time of year a rather sad looking place, but with a couple of reasonable resturants. We had a great view over the beach and harbour, a good job as the weather was not at its best!! So some photos are taken through the window and even through raindrops. This view gave an oportunity for middle of the night photos on very long exposures which gave that wonderful effect on the sea. These and more at Flickr

Hyacinths – Indoor Time

I know I was only going to post one photo each time but my excuse is this is several days worth!! Such amazing flowers but very hard to get photos that have some meaning and value! Here are eight taken at different times, all using directed (snoot) flash in the blacked out studio.

Nature or Nurture! Or As seen or Studio?

Carrying on from yesterday….. In order to have backgrounds ready for this coming winter season (2011) I have started tajing photos of Christmas like situations, but I feel that they are arificial! So, during the festive season I took a few of the tree, which was decorated in an organic way, it is not planned or designed and bits are added here and there. The result I feel is more life like but it may not be as useful, the colour, intensity of light, evenness of light ans so on. Anyway, I am beginning to wonder whether I should have a tree in the studio (it would have to be artificial – all those needles …………… I must add that I used a red laser to highlight some of the baubles – on long exposures it has an interesting effect!

Happy New Year

My sight is heading towards normal!! Still cannot focus properly! Been playing with images for next Christmas! I have discovered the benefit of black material – and will have to shoot again as the reflections from tree baubles is amazing – shows everything – me, the window, the camera, book case etc…….. Anyway, this one was not too bad!

Out and About

Although vision is still blurred I have managed to get a few photos – the magic of modern cameras (these are from a point and shoot and I did!), some of these are the ice on the side of the River Tamar which almost seems fluid as the tide ebbs and flows. And one is to show that spring is just around the corner………

The Second Heavy Snows

Again these have not been played with – some were taken before dawn or sunrise over Dartmoor, again with one eye out of commission.

The One Eyed Splendor of Snow

Having had problems with one eye I am reduced to momocular vision, and it is my photographing eye that is wearing the pirates patch, I still wanted to get the splendor of the snow, so here is one lot after the first 4 inch fall, the additional 5 inches will follow later. Because using the computer is very dificult, I need new glasses and I cant have them untill my bad eye recovers – 6 weeks so everything is blurred – these images are as taken, no Lightroom or Photoshop!

Frosty Morning

Well, I managed to get up and get out with the camera today, must be all the winter vitamin tablets! One of the heaviest frosts I can remember in a long time. It was interesting as the the trees were white from the frost but only at lower levels, so that there was a colour inversion, the normal white moors were coloured and the coloured trees were white!

Misty Morning

I managed to get up and out yesterday, the sun and mist were too tempting, and although well below freezing it was dry. A short walk to a Milleneum Green and views across Dartmoor and Plymouth produced the following! I like the way that the views are almost cardboard cutouts …………
