Two Pots, 2 Flowers from the garden and a Daffodil!
But, you will only see one today! With a studio shoot of 412 and some of them cracking shots as Wallace would have said (that is Wallace and Gromet not Mrs Wallace!) it will take a while to reduce the number to a manageable size! New back lighting has been fun and very effective! Anyway to wet your appetite – or drive you away completely…………………Playing with light!
I tried a few outdoor flowers but the wind and the slugs were too much! So, back in the studio, a new cut out for the snoot and some nice local daffodils and crocus and off I went! More at http://www.flickr.com/photos/reflexrover in the new Spring 2011 ptIII set. And my photos are for sale!!

Spring again!
Whilst the weather stays bright I seem to be in the studio – somewhat perverse you may think! Anyway, some of the specie flowers have wilted, but the crocus and a nice hyacinth given to us are still going strong, so they were shot! Also, in the garden was a log that had been growing fungi for a while seem a suitable subject! On a technical note the snoot has been oin action and so has the mister, I am still not sure about misting flowers…… Next will be daffodils, there is a bunch starting to open on the studio table at this very moment (of course if you read this later it will not be true!). Of course more pictures are available at Flickr.com in my Spring 2011 pt II set (direct link)

Spring – Sprung – Sprong
Or so it seems, still cold, wet, frosty …… but the Snowdrops are out! Also, the nursery had potted specie iris and crocus so I could not resist!! So armed with spray gun, camera, flash and snoot it was time to spend a happy hour or so in the studio. Trying to continue on from last spring of lighting the flowers from the inside but very hard with such spikey plants!! Lots more at Flickr.com

Newquay
We took a couple of days off with a break in Newquay – at this time of year a rather sad looking place, but with a couple of reasonable resturants. We had a great view over the beach and harbour, a good job as the weather was not at its best!! So some photos are taken through the window and even through raindrops. This view gave an oportunity for middle of the night photos on very long exposures which gave that wonderful effect on the sea. These and more at Flickr

The Tamar River
A walk along the Cornish side on the rivers edge, waiting for the tide to go out. Lots of pictures of the three bridges in the mist! The rest are on Flickr Incredible light and wet feet. The mist slowly rose but I have kept the images slightly dark to give a vague mysterious view!

Snowdrops – Spring begins!!
The first day of sunshine for a while, and the snowdrops are wagging their heads! Because of the neighbours fence the sun does not quite reach the snowdrops anymore, so, a gold reflector was used which gives a really warm feel, an evening light! How many more oportunities there will be I do not know, the tree under whose protection they grow is about to have a haircut so they may get stood upon or hit by flying logs – I hope not!! Last year the neighbours tree cutters dragged all the branches across them, ruining the surrounding natural background and the flowers….. Maybe next year will be OK!

Hyacinths – Indoor Time
I know I was only going to post one photo each time but my excuse is this is several days worth!! Such amazing flowers but very hard to get photos that have some meaning and value! Here are eight taken at different times, all using directed (snoot) flash in the blacked out studio.

Nature or Nurture! Or As seen or Studio?
Carrying on from yesterday….. In order to have backgrounds ready for this coming winter season (2011) I have started tajing photos of Christmas like situations, but I feel that they are arificial! So, during the festive season I took a few of the tree, which was decorated in an organic way, it is not planned or designed and bits are added here and there. The result I feel is more life like but it may not be as useful, the colour, intensity of light, evenness of light ans so on. Anyway, I am beginning to wonder whether I should have a tree in the studio (it would have to be artificial – all those needles …………… I must add that I used a red laser to highlight some of the baubles – on long exposures it has an interesting effect!
