No Flowers, just a tree and some docks!

Lots of other things have been going on so just a tree and some shots around Salford Quays, Manchester. All taken on the G9 so not the best quality. But I was travelling by train and weight was the main thing!! The dots on the crane wires are starlings……

Jazz and Boats!!

A sunny (for the main) day spent wandering around the Barbican for the Jazz & Blues International Festival and the Classic Boat Show. A great time – nice lunch at 3.30 at the B-Bar, met a few friends, heard some good music and had a drink or two as we travelled by train!!

Light

Still working indoors (which to be honest I prefer) I am still playing with light. One of these is of a cactus flower which is under a centimetre long.

Wind, rain and not much else!

Been playing with a new flash set-up. The wind is getting worse, the rain has damaged flowers – time to move downstairs where I have spied some prime suspects…… but you will have to put up with these for now!

Storm Force Winds in Drakewalls!!

All this wind means the flowers are damaged and waterlogged so getting them to photograph has not been easy. My xmas lights from China arrived this week, so I can now add back bokeh (out of focus bits) without flooding the studio (the wet way involves spray guns, angled flash guns and a lot of good luck!), and here are the first trials – some with a Chive head and some with a fallen Foxglove – I must wash my hands – the digitalis won’t help!!

Hightide and Sunrise on the Tamar

A very early start and early mist flowing down the Tamar. A friend said how about just catching the spring tide for an hour or two. So off we went (not been up that early for ages!), nearly wet feet getting to the dingy, but fantastic light and drifting mist. The tide dropped several feet before we returned for a splendid breakfast!! lots more at www.flickr.com/photos/reflexrover/sets/72157627421331509/

Infra Red

I discovered that my spare DSLR is IR complient so ordered a cheap Infra Red Filter from China – it arrived in a few days and as it was a dull day I thought ‘why not?’ so I did!! And these are the results with a little desaturation on the gray ones. It seems as if getting the white balance is the hardest part, and not being able to see anything through the lense, and having to guess the exposure as the meter is not claibrated for IR!! I shall do more of these as they are fun even though they look like slightly strange black and white prints!

The Sun came out……………

Wow!! a few rays of sunshine got me out with the camera, no studio for a few days! The garden supplies much of my subjects including these. There are more at http://www.flickr.com/photos/reflexrover/sets/72157627493812074/

Triple Wammy!

Todays post has three sections. I have been trying to use what facilities I have – lenses, weather and more – I live at the top of a hill with nothing higher than us to the North Atlantic – another way of saying that it is WINDY! I often say, ‘can’t photograph today as it is too windy’, so to counteract that and with the aid of a variable Neutral Density filter and flash gun or multiple exposure I have tried to counter the wind. Secondly whilst waiting for a new zoom I have been making myself use prime lenses for everything which has proved a good relearning curve! Finally the new Nikon 28 – 300 arrived; meant for travel use when I need to change from zoom to wide angle quickly it was fun to just go for a walk to see what it would do and it is wonderful – heavy as it is a FX lens and solid with crisp optics. More of the same at Flickr
